Overview:
Hairline lowering, otherwise known as forehead reduction, is a facial plastic surgical procedure used to correct a high hairline/forehead that is out of proportion with the other facial features and/or feminise a masculine looking hairline. The goal of surgery is to provide a more proportionate forehead and a rounder more feminine hairline shape.
Treatment:
Hairline lowering surgery is performed under general anaesthesia in the hospital setting as a day case procedure. Miss Berridge is meticulous with her incision design which is made just within the hairline, and excess forehead skin is carefully excised to bring the hairline forward by no more than 2 to 2.5cm. The final position of the hairline is dependent upon the laxity of the individual’s scalp. Typically, the surgical procedure takes between 1.5 to 2 hours.
Recovery:
After hairline lowering surgery, patients may experience some swelling and tightness which may take up to 1-2 weeks to resolve. Bruising, infection and major bleeding are fortunately rare. Patients are expected to experience some altered sensation to the scalp region which may take up to 18 months to slowly improve. Sutures and/or staples are removed within 8 to 10 days after surgery.
